Of girls and geese

My dad has a soft spot in his heart for the geese that return to our pond every year, and breed a new gaggle of goslings. He keeps a stash of stale bread in the garage, and immediately upon their return in the spring, he starts to make friends with them.
(I'm pretty sure that the way to a goose's heart is through it's stomach, as well.) It is the delight of all the younger grandkids to be allowed to accompany Grandpa on these feeding expeditions. Maia was a little afraid of them, at first, as the male was taller than she was! She would get big round eyes, and say, "Goosh!" So cute!!

One day, when the girls came over, we spied the geese on the other side of the pond, by my "old" house. Dad wasn't up to the excursion, so I took them, armed with several slices of bread each. I told them that we would have to walk slowly and quietly so we wouldn't scare the geese. Maia's version of "slow and quiet" was absolutely priceless, and I was trying to hold in my laughter from watching her!!

They heard us coming and took to the water.
The girls threw their bread and we got them to come back out.
We also found a bluebird's nest, much to the girls' delight!
