Pepperkakehus!

Last Friday evening, we made gingerbread houses (pepperkakehus) with the kitchen gang. We got extra people in to wash up after dinner and put out the food in the evening so we had the whole evening. We decided to do it in the girl's lounge downstairs to get out of the regular workplace in the kitchen. It was a first for most, (me included!) and was a lot of fun with a lot of LAUGHS!! I went online and found two basic house patterns and an icing glue recipe. The icing turned out to be a little runny and not so GLUEY, but it held eventually.

Grete and Agnes had the fun job of cutting out all the patterns. We used prepared dough but it was still a bigger job than we thought!
Supplies
Ready, set, BUILD! Susanne's house had a mind of it's own and the gable roof really didn't want to stay put!
She was only SLIGHTLY FREAKING OUT!
Check out the lovely glare I'm getting after all my helpful assistance!
Emily decided to do a church and made her own pattern beforehand.
Andrea M's house kept leaning to the side and looked kind of creepy so she made a marsipan ghost outside and called it haunted! Too funny! Andrea H took all the leftover pieces from both patterns and made this large...abstract...villa? We were planning to put all the houses up in the dining hall so everyone could see them and enjoy them too. Most of the girls ended up wanting to take theirs home, but Andrea and a few others put theirs up in the coffee bar where they were promptly EATEN! Hello! What's up with that?! Ever hear of DECORATION??
Pizza rolls and shrimp dip after all the hard work (and all the sweet candy)!
Teresa and her friend, Johanna, came to the Christmas Concert and stayed with me for a whopping total of 21 hours! It was a short but awesome visit and we made the most of it! The Christmas Concert was amazing and the cd is HIGHLY recommended! We tried to take a picture together but the snow in the background threw off the lighting and the settings were acting up so this was the best I could do to salvage the picture. I like it though! Today: I am drinking tea by the gallon. And coughing. And hurting. I somehow managed to catch a chest cold Sunday during the night and it's moved into my throat and I have nearly lost my voice and it's just not fun! I didn't go to work yesterday and did what I could from my apartment but there was no such luxury today and it was back to work and get things DONE! Hopefully I can knock this bad boy before I leave for home on FRIDAY!! Note to Johanna: I'll take you up on the cup of tea! Note to Verba: I come bearing KRANSEKAKEDEIG. Note to Roshini: I don't come bearing a julekalender as I don't think it would survive the journey BUT we will MAKE one together! :D Take care, mate and I'll see you all in 3 DAYS!!

Thanks Mate!

If it's any comfort - we all have your cold :) And im not saying how we got it ... my lips are sealed - but hey...that's what friends are for! (right!) Looks like julekalender is going to be all observation on my part - not taking the sitting up too well :) And hey can we do cheddar potato instead of chicken soup ? (unless i change my mind.. :) ONLY ONE MORE DAY TO GO! and I cant even look out of the window - but that doesn't mean im not waiting inside! 310 Central Church Road is my current location... will update on relocation :)
