Letters from home
I love getting letters, especially the kind that come in a sealed envelope, written in a familiar hand that you recognize even before you see who it is from. Being a year and a half away from home has only heightened that pleasure, and I truly cherish every piece of mail that I get here. A few days ago, I received my first letter ever from my youngest sister, Abbie, age 10. It was a wonderful, sweet letter and it simply made my day! Here are a few excerpts which she gave me permission to post.
Dear Teresa,
How’s it going? I really miss you! I can’t believe it’s only 13 more days of school! I can’t wait for summer! Swimming, bikeing, and the beach! ... I would love if you could be here to share all the good times ... I’ve really missed your cooking and I bet you miss CHINESE FOOD! I bet I know what you are thinking “Hush Puppy”! ... Has your laugh changed any? (I hope not!) Did you learn lots of new resipes that you can cook for us when you get back? Is it really busy over there? You know I heard a while ago that they had asked you to move to Norway. Well I am telling you this now if you move then you better be prepared to have some else move in to your apartment. Because it just so happens that this person would be ME!! But I really hope that you never come to that kind of a disision! I really hope that you have a great time and remember that I have always loved you and always will! Well I hope that you know that I miss you like a lolli-pop missing it’s stick! I’ve gata go now. Love ya! See ya, Abbie
I miss you too, Abbie, and I love you. Always have. Always will.
ok, here's a letter for you.
Dear Teresa,
I am writing this real slow, 'cause I know you can't read very fast.
We don't live where we did when you left. You read in the paper that most accidents
happen within twenty miles of home so we moved. I won't be able to send you the
address 'cause we don't have one. The last family that lived here took the numbers
off the house with them for their next house, so they wouldn't have to change their
address.
This place has a washing machine. The first day I put four shirts in, pulled the chain
and I ain't seem 'em since.
It only rained twice this week. Three days the first time and four days the second time.
You know the coat you wanted me to send to you? Well ... Aunt Sue said it would be
too heavy to send in the mail with them heavy buttons on it, so we cut them off and
put them in the pockets.
We got a letter from the funeral home. They said if we don't make the last payment on Granny's funeral bill ... UP SHE COMES!
Your sister had a baby this morning, I ain't heard whether it is a boy or a girl, so I don't
know if you're an uncle or an aunt.
Your Uncle John fell in a whiskey vat, some men tried to pull him out, but he fought
them off, so he drowned. We cremated him and he burned for three days.
Three of your friends went off the bridge in a pick-up truck. One was driving, the other
two were in the back. The driver got out. He rolled the window down and swam to
safety. The other two drowned. They couldn't get the tailgate down.
There's not much news this time, nothin' much has happened.
Love, some relative or other
Hehe, yeah, I've seen that one before, but it made me smile to read it again. :D Cheers!!
Hehe, That is hilarious! Letters are a place I have failed miserably in I'm afraid. Maybe the blog helps make up a tiny bit. I don't know... guess I should try a bit harder.
It does indeed. :D Especially if there are accompanying pictures!! :D:D:D
