So long, farewell

Today we said goodbye to our very dear friend, Haike. She is going home for a few months and then to work in the kitchen at the mission center in Brazil. She has been a cornerstone in the kitchen for over two years! For the first year she was working in the kitchen, as helper and cook, and for the second, she was my sidekick in the office. I have never worked with anyone so enthusiastic to work before. No job was too hard or too long. In the beginning, I had to forbid her to come to the kitchen on her days off just so she would get out and get some fresh air! She is such a goofball and full of life, energy and music, with such a caring heart for the people around her. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to work with her and we will miss her!

Today: It was a bit of an "under the weather" day today, but I think it's safe to say that we are back on track! I am loving the crispness of fall, loving my new sweaters and shoes, and even my new red umbrella, which I have gotten to use once! Rain is so much happier with a red umbrella! I love October! It's get-down-to-business month. Clean-out-the-corners-and-junk-heaps-and-get-things-into-shape month. I'm thinking of pumpkins and the jack-o-lanterns and pies we will make with them. I'm thinking of lamb stew and warm apple crisp and all the other wonderful fall foods! I love it! This may be my last fall here and I'm going to make the most of it!
