Check one off
Ride in ambulance - checked off my list of things I've never done (and hope to never do again) list. Just before getting into bed last night, my throat suddenly started to close up, my tongue felt thick and it was a struggle to speak properly, I felt extremely dizzy and light-headed, like I would black out and very weak and tingly all over. Mom had gone to bed, but came right away when I texted her, and we tried to figure out what was the cause, as the symptoms got steadily worse.. My only thought was that it was a possible mix/overdose of OTC meds (Robitusin DM and Theraflu Severe Cold and Cough - I was careful not to take both at once), and I drank about 5 glasses of water to try and flush it out, if that's what it was. Mom called the hotline and they said it sounded more like an allergic reaction than an overdose and told her that she shouldn't even consider trying to drive me in, and to call 911 immediately. It was super weird and almost surreal, as nothing like this has ever happened before, and I've taken both products many times. It's one thing to have severe pain somewhere, and it's another to wonder if you're going to be able to keep breathing, and how fast your throat is going to continue to close up; how much time you have left. So not cool. I got oxygen on the way in, and was seen briefly, then told to wait in the waiting room until called back. During the 2 hour wait, most of the symptoms gradually subsided, and by the time the doctor came in, I was fine and just wanted to go home... She believed it was an allergic reaction to the antihistamine, gave me some steroids and sent me home around 4:00, and told me to follow up with my doctor on Monday. Wow. I'm so glad that didn't happen on the way to New York!! So for now, we're sticking with honey lemon cough drops, echinacea and Vitamin C! So much for a quiet weekend! And yeah, I have a renewed appreciation for life! <3
