Mission Accomplished

Hurray for apple cider! Today was the perfect day to make it as it wasn't a busy, bustling day like usual. The cooks were busy making sloppy joes and the helpers were cutting carrots and celery and I, I had two hours free time and had some FUN! I started with 50 apples and ended up with a little over 3 liters of juice. I'm not going to tell you what and how and when in this post as I want to see how it turns out first. If it turns out to be a dismal failure, then I will just have to say SO MUCH FOR THAT. But for now, there are two 1,5 liter bottles of would-be cider sitting on my desk, which, after 3 -4 days, I will heat up to remove any bacteria and then cool down and THEN it will be ready to drink! I had a taste of the fresh stuff and even though it wasn't ripe, man was it good! I can't wait!! This is in case anyone missed it in the last post - I am planning to come home on the 12th of December and stay until New Years. :D Yay!

Hope it turns out good. Beware of "hard" cider :-) Of course, you could always end up with some good vinegar!

Hehe, yeah. It says it will be sweet cider after 3-4 days so I'm hoping. It says if you leave it for a couple weeks, the fermentation will turn the sugar into alcohol and you will have hard, dry alcoholic cider. :) I could start my own still...

50 apples for 3 liters of cider!? Good grief! Now wonder it is so expensive. Hope it turns out. Ok, now I can start counting... til you come home. : D

Yeah. I'm sure if you had a proper press you would get a bit more out. I squeezed it by hand over a large bowl for over an hour and at the end I had a ball of pulp the size of a baseball and even though there was still a little juice in it, I called it quits. 51 days!
