A taste of Holland

I was first introduced to this Dutch delicacy while on the A-team and fell in love with the crispy waffle cookie with creamy, caramel filling. While I was home for Christmas, Maria showed me a new cookie recipe book she had picked up and excitedly showed me a recipe for Stroopwafels! Needless to say, she is a big fan too and as they are only to be purchased in Holland, we were really excited to try to make them ourselves! We had a lot of fun in the process and were quite pleased with the results that tasted pretty close to the original! Mmm!! We ended up giving them out as Christmas gifts to some of our friends who enjoy a good cup of tea. Thanks for the fun, Maria!! Maria, adding the umpteenth teaspoon of water instead of 2-3 to the batter that was supposed to "roll off the spoon within 3 seconds" but which actually had to be scraped off no matter how much water we added! We FINALLY got it right!

We used a pizzelle maker to make the cookies. Maria became quite expert!
They were a lot of fun to make and I am now on the lookout for a pizzelle/stroopwafel maker for over here so I can make more! The Dutch girls here were excited to hear about it too, and want to make them for all of A-lag!! Hmmm, sounds like a JOB!! (but a fun one)

Thanks for your help on those! That was really fun and nice to spend time with you. (And laugh a little bit... hehe) I just ate my first "whole" one the other day when Kris and I made another batch to finish up our leftover filling. They are GOOD! And very fun to make even though I think making them for the whole of A-laget would be a bit of a challenge. But good luck with that! : )

Hello Teresa,
I have one of mine left :-) and Bob has really enjoyed them, too!
Today we took in the last of the New Year's Conf. Mtgs and now it is back to work tomorrow.
I saw Mark eating a stroopwafel while at the Mtg. I think they were a real hit with everyone.
